FEBRUARY Camp Weekend Details:

It's just about here-our first weekend together with the whole team! The excitement grows each and every day as we come to the realization that this project has far greater significance than simply preparing for a one-shot performance in August. It has become apparent that the journey itself is the essence of the project. Every step of the way is of equal importance in reaching our destination and is a major event in itself.

As with any challenge we accept we have the ability to determine its degree of success based on our preparation and attitude. Don't waste a moment in what could prove to be the most exciting and satisfying journey you've ever taken.

FIRST: The Reunion Party-February 24th

All performing members, don't miss a chance to mix with other members of the Reunion Project on Friday night, February 24th at 7:00pm. This bash will be held at the Coliseum Bar, which is located at 232 E. Olin Avenue-just off of John Nolan Drive. We'll have a cash bar and food will be available downstairs in the bar/restaurant. Audio and visual Madison Scouts memorabilia will be available for your perusing. Hope to see you there!!!

Second: The Rehearsal Weekend-February 25-26

Location: Our first rehearsal weekend will be held at Patrick Marsh Middle School located at 1351 Columbus Street in Sun Prairie, WI. [Get map & directions here or off map quest] It is located off of hwy 151 (a.k.a. East Washington Ave) about 6.5 miles east of East Towne Mall.

Schedule: It is extremely important that you be on time and be at the entire rehearsal! With our limited schedule, this is the only way we will reach the necessary level of excellence.

Saturday 9am-8pm This includes 3 rehearsal segments and a lunch and dinner break.

Sunday 9am-4pm This includes 2 rehearsal segments and a lunch break.

Goals: The performance goals of this weekend are to work through and solidify the entire musical book and to establish our visual style for the program. The guard will emphasize technique and also learn a good share of the effects that they utilize in the show. The other important goal, of course, is to get to know and appreciate all of your brothers that are part of this project.

Uniform: We will fit for and order uniforms this weekend. The uniform is based on the 1981 version and includes shirt, pants, shoes, hat, sash, shoulder cords, gauntlets, spats, belt, tie and gloves (brass-HG). The entire package is only $100 and you'll get to keep it at project completion. (Helluva Souvenir) You must pay the $100 before camp preferably (via PayPal or Check) or by the end of camp at the latest!

Housing/Transportation: If you have taken care of your own housing or transportation needs and don't' need assistance from us, you can skip the rest of this section and move on to equipment. If you need help with housing (staying with members or looking for hotel roommates) and/or transportation (airport pickup/weekend transit) submit the following quick form by Tuesday, February 21 at the latest and we will help take care of your needs.

Equipment:

  • Color Guard-bring your own rifle if convenient.
  • Brass-you do not have to bring music stands! You should bring gloves, though if you don't have a pair, we'll have them for sale at camp!
  • Percussion-bring drum pads, drum sticks/mallets for this camp. No music stands are needed. We are planning to have stands available for drummers at this camp. (especially bass & tenors)

Note: It's a little dry this time of year, so consider bringing your own water bottle that is unbreakable and un-spillable. This will help us maximize our time and keep energy levels up, because we've got a long ways to go and a short time to get there!

Hotels: The Econo-Lodge has offered us a special rate for our rehearsal weekends. The normal rate is $72/night, but we've received a project rate of $50/room + Tax. You can receive this rate by calling (608)241-4171 and identifying yourself as a member of the Madison Scouts Alumni. The hotel is very conveniently located across from East Towne Mall at 4726 East Washington Avenue (HWY 151). It is less than 10 minutes from our rehearsal site, downtown, and the airport. Don't wait too long on this one as rooms are limited!
